Texas architect, Cole Smith, FAIA, founded Whitesmith & Company, Inc. in 1993. Introduced to forging and metalwork in the 1940's as a student of architecture and engineering at Kansas State University, Smith continues to design and fabricate prototypes at his own forge. Originally the weighty, custom-forged pieces were designed as decorative additions to the work done by his architectural firm, Smith, Ekblad and Associates. Now these exquisitely worked locks, hinges, lanterns, chandeliers, and fittings are available for direct purchase.
Located in Dallas, Texas, Cole and his team of talented artisans endeavor to create unique pieces for use in residential and commercial settings. Their award winning designs range from small hardware to grace a cabinet to mammoth 10' tall chandeliers. Espagnolette locks, a multi-point locking system for windows and doors, are a particular specialty.
